Coffee break after a day out with Mum and taking her to see the new decor at The Grounds of the City. The Grounds of Alexandria probably still remains our fav family cafe/tourist spot when relos come over, but you do have to drive and make the trek there.
Super busy, around 20min wait even after 4pm on the weekend. Apparently lunch time on weekend was almost a 2 hour wait...
It is quite squishy and crowded inside, filled with heaps of tables and seat, but makes sense because we're in the CBD and rent space ain't cheap compared to a warehouse style at Alexandria. I love this sort of 1920s decor. I personally just love old style buildings/architecture, so love how this cafe is so different from others in the CBD.
Affogato w/ housemate tiramisu ice cream and popping candy rocks-$7
Regular capp-$4
I think I've had a fair share of their drinks, but first time having the affogato. Love how the ice cream has some bits of sponge in it, but wished there was a bit more. Interesting to put popping candy but I don't really get why, and pouring the coffee on, it sort of splashed up from the candy...Still a decent affogato, not that I can really compare, since I actually hardly order this.
takeaway
The menu for lunch is a lot more pricier, around $25 to even $40+ depending if you go for a steak or seafood. The breakfast menu price is similar to The Grounds one. Hope to come back to try their food out though.
Is this the one at the Galeries? The coffee is lovely and the decor is nice :)
