I'm back! It was an amazing and eye-opening experience up at the Territory for the past 2 weeks. Learnt so much, as well as explored the surrounding and had time to eat/play. Somehow survived with having no reception the past week. Only Telstra has reception, and even then, an hour drive into another Aboriginal community, and there's still no signal.
It was very interesting seeing Aboriginal patients, and a really different clinical setting. We're basically given an empty room, and bring all our equipment to the patients. Although my skills probably haven't improved that much due to a lack of patients, it was still interesting to see different conditions/diseases.
I don't know where to start talking, but I'll probs do a places to do/list to eat, and a run down of my placement in the upcoming week. Uni already seems super cray already, with assignments, making videos (how is making a video relevant to becoming an optom? feels like high school again), just jam packed courses and lecture schedule in the 1st week. Plus need to do my placement report and other stuff, so fingers cross I have time to blog about it. (Still have a lot of food posts to do as well..)
Btw, I do not advise to go to Darwin. There is nothing to do there, nothing. The CBD feels more like a country town like Nowra/Batesman Bay etc rather than a city. There's one main street and everything is about 10mins away. There's plenty to do outside of Darwin in the Territory, and that's why all you see is people mainly driving 4wd and 'grey nomads' with their caravans driving across the territory, or from Adelaide to Darwin. We got to see some pretty amazing sites whilst we were there for 2 weeks, and they were all outside of Darwin. So highly recommend visiting the National Parks in NT.
Sounds like a great experience - glad you got to go!!
