Outback Jack's

*Warning: spam of meat photos ahead*

I think I've tried most of the steak and rib places in Sydney, but haven't tried this place yet, so thought it would be a good time to take relatives from overseas to a more 'Aussie' sort of meal with steak/ribs. We sort of over ordered, but the more food the merrier right? It's a bid cheaper than it's competitors, but I think that's cause the portions are slightly smaller and quality isn't as high.

food spread

Skippy Dundee:  Kangaroo and Crocodile on Skewers with Jack’s Bush Chutney-$16.95

They're pretty small servings, but I found that they had a decent flavour of crocodile and kangaroo. You only get 3 skewers of each. They also come with a spicyish tomato chutney which we dipped some chips into.

Crocodile ribs Basted in a Lemon Myrtle Glaze.-$19.95

The meat was so tender and juicy, this was my favourite dish of the night. It was full of flavour as well without being too salty.

Bushranger Salad Basket: Spicy Bulldust Coated Chicken, Baby Greens, Sour Cream, Tomato, Cheese, Carrot and Onion, Jack’s Aussie Mountain Pepper Mayo in an Edible Tortilla Bowl.-$19.95

I wanted to try tis mainly for the seasoning on the chicken. It wasn't as flavourful as I hoped and not enough chicken, and had way too much dressing that it was a bit sickening. The tortilla bowl was very cool though.

Lump A-Rump (250g I think)-$32.95 , Mushroom Sauce-$2.95

Steak was a bit tough even though cooked medium rare. It's times like this where you know the quality isn't as high once you look at the price. Even though rump isn't the tenderest cuts, you can still get high quality rump steaks which are super soft.

Slow Cooked Bourbon Pork Ribs: Meaty Shoulder Ribs, Cooked to Perfection in Our Very Own Bourbon Glaze, served with Chunky Chips. (far back)-$35.95

Ribs are cheaper here, but it's because it's a half rack. It wasn't really falling off the bone meat/super tender, and the bone wasn't as nicely curved as the more expensive pork ribs, and I found it to be a bit too saucy, it was just average, not really a bad pork rib.

Beef ribs: Slow Cooked Beef Ribs, served with Chunky Chips-$35.95

Beef ribs were very saucy as well. It was cooked well with a good chunk of meat, again not as tender as other places.

Combo: rump steak (150g from memory), pork ribs, baked spud-$35.95

I quite liked this baked spud. Firm but not hard. I found the salad was way too over dressed.

I liked how they printed on their napkins (normally that would cost heaps more haha)

why not a croc for decor?

This place is average tbh, but I think it would suit a lot of families in the area here for a family night out. Stand out was definitely the crocodile ribs.

  1. I've seen this place! Sounds good. Outback places are so expensive compared to Asian though.
